What to ask a vault · How Do I Get It Back?
Question Five — How Hard Is It to Leave?
Easy to get metal in. The arrangement is defined by how easy it is to get out, and that is the part nobody demonstrates before you join.
Come and see the vault before you move anything. No account relationship is required to visit.

Exit terms are where the friction hides
Long notice periods, withdrawal fees priced to discourage, delivery only in unhelpful forms, or the right to settle in cash rather than metal — all of these can appear in an agreement without appearing in the marketing. They are the terms that decide whether you actually control the asset.
Notice periods and collection arrangements are worth establishing at the outset for the same reason. An arrangement that is easy to enter and slow to exit is a different arrangement from one that is straightforward in both directions, and the difference is only visible in the terms.
What to ask before you join
- What notice is required for withdrawal?
- What does withdrawal cost?
- Do I get the same bars back, or equivalent metal?
- Can you settle in cash instead of metal, at your option?
- Can I collect in person?
Testing it before you need to
Arrange a viewing or a partial collection early in the relationship, while nothing is urgent. It confirms the process works, establishes what notice is genuinely required, and tells you how the facility behaves when asked.
Discovering how an arrangement handles a withdrawal at the point you actually need one is the wrong time to find out. Testing it costs almost nothing.
How we handle it
- 01The same bars and coins come back, checked against your inventory.
- 02Collection in person by appointment, or insured shipping.
- 03Reasonable notice for large or bulk withdrawals, especially silver.
- 04Terms stated in the agreement before you store anything.
The right to settle in cash at the custodian's option is the clause to look for and the one least often noticed. If the provider can hand you money instead of your metal when it suits them, you own an investment product rather than metal, whatever the brochure says.
Common questions
- Do I get the same bars back?
- Yes — the same bars and coins, checked against your signed inventory.
- How much notice do you need?
- Reasonable notice, more for bulk silver because moving it is physical work. Agreed at the outset.
- Can I collect in person?
- Yes, by appointment. Many clients do.
- Can you pay me cash instead?
- No. You store metal, you receive metal. Look for that clause in any agreement you are offered.

Tell us what needs to move.
What, from where, and roughly when. You do not need an inventory to start the conversation, and if the job belongs with an armored carrier we will say so on the call.
